Can you help me with this?

I am programming a 2400 with flat plus that need to be linked to about 19 different departments. My dealer set up the department numbers before I picked up the machines on Friday (can't reach him this weekend) so I don't know how he programmed them. We will not be using a button on the keyboard to access the departments. We will be registering using the flat plu buttons and then using coupons, etc. . .

I priced all the PLUs and named them all. I also named all the departments. Then I linked every plu to it's department by following these instructions: This example is how I linked department #2 (this department contains plus from 71 to 140 - 2nd menu)

3 subtotal 1166 subtotal 2 menushift and then pressed the appropriate flat plu key
This seemed to work great and the report shows them all linked correctly.

When I switched to Reg1 mode and tried to ring in some items I found that they were no longer taxed at all and when I tried to tender the sale, I got the 026 error message, asking me to press the condiment/preparation PLU.

There is little to no information in the manual about condiment/preparatoin. I found 1 reference that explains that the register can be programmed to force the condiment/preparation PLU registration, but can't figure out how this happened.

I am assuming it has something to do with the department programming since this was not an issue until I linked them. OR in linking them as I did, perhaps I forced the need to press this elusive condiment/preparation PLU button.

I have tried to reprogram the departments, but have had zero success. Since I am not using a key on the keyboard for the departments, I can't figure out the correct syntax to program them. If I type in the file and record number in place of the key, I get beeped at.

Do you have any ideas?

Any help would be so greatly appreciated. I feel like I am on the verge of being able to speak the language, but I am missing some important little part.

Thanks - Cathy

OK. by reading some old posts I figured out how to program the departments as taxable when you do NOT have department keys on the keyboard.

departments are file #05 and each department has it's own number, so Department #1 is 105, 2 is 205, etc. . .

3 subtotal 105 subtotal 1000000 CASH (that's not in the book)
then you can just go on to the next department 205 subtotal 1000000 CASH
when all done, press subtotal to exit the program.

Now I have to see if that solved the E026 problem. (probably not)

It did not solve the E026 problem, but it did tax the departments. Now I am going through and setting the PLUs to taxable. I'll dig some more to find out what I did to create that condiment error.

So sorry to take time up on the boards. After much reading, trying, head scratching, and thinking, I found the fix. Somehow I messed up the programming on all of my flat PLUs. (Basically the last little digit in the program data was set to something other than 0). To fix them all at the same time (there are over 200 PLUS) I followed the Range (Department/PLU/Flat-PLU) instructions as follows:

3
subtotal
990000
04
subtotal
starting record number (I skipped the address code)
Ca/Amt Tend
ending record number
Ca/Amt Tend
1000000
Ca/Amt Tend
sub total

This reset all of the plus between 1 and 280 back to 1000000 status.

Whew!

I should say that I also ran that program with the 0166 address code before I did this. [ 3 sub 99000004 sub 0166 sub 1 ca/Amt tend 280 ca/Amt tend sub] It didn't fix the problem, but maybe you have to do both.

Anyway, I am glad the forum is here and I hope this may help someone else who is struggling. Thanks for your help. I'm not done yet and I'll bet I will be back.

Hi.
Glad you got there. It is all just status settings as you found out. You can do portions of status or all status at one time. It is all in the manual, but it is written as a reference for dealers who know exactly what they are looking for. Once you get the hang of adding the sum of bit settings as you have, then you program almost anything :)
