Hi. Struggling a bit with downloading anything useful from my till.
I have CV-10 and can get the Z journal file downloaded fine but as its a copy of the journal from the till then its difficult to load into anything to build sales reports over time.

I've written an MS Access app to read the journal file and interpret it but its not pretty and there are always RFs, CANCELS, etc that throw it.

All I really want is a CSV file with Date, Time, Journal Code, Item, Quantity and the amount to start with

Am I missing something and there's a really easy way to do this or has anyone written anything more useful/robust?

Feel like it should be a common request but can't find anything on the web.

I've been having a play with CV-10 today (and its components, such as c_comw) as I've not really used them for downloading the electronic journal before. I've not achieved anything more than you have and I'm equally surprised there's not much out there about it. The only vaguely useful reference document I've found is a PC communication module/utility Guide for QT-6000/6100, QT-6600 and SE series. Some of it is relevant to SE-S300/2000 but I've not made much progress after reading it end-to-end.

I have found out how to use c_comw directly to download the journal without resetting it every time and can even choose one of two equally useless formats of the same data! I'll continue to have a play as it's been someting I've been meaning to look at. I don't actually use my till that often so I never build up much data in the electronic journal. My suspicion is that the electronic journal is exactly what it says on the tin: an exact copy of what's printed on the journal roll - nothing more, although I'd love to be wrong.

Hi, thanks for quick reply and for having a dig around. Its pretty much what I've found. Certainly looks like a gap in the market!

Seems strange that these kind of features don't seem to be a priority on low-mid range tills. Or maybe that's the idea to get people to buy higher end ones! Having to use an old windows XP laptop with a built in Serial port (I couldn't get any of the 4 USB Serial adapters I bought after reading advice on which to choose to work with Windows Vista and connect to the till) doesn't seem like it will be viable for ever.

Oh well, back to my spagetti code!

Ha! I did exactly the same thing: rescued an old Tosh Satellite Pro (with Serial Port) from the scrapheap to run XP. I had very limited joy with USB-Serial adaptors. One worked intermittently but kept locking up CV-10 so I gave up. I'm fairly new to cash registers (I only bought one as I occasionally take my web store to events and sell face-to-face) but the underlying technology does seem to be from the 1980s. Another pet project of mine is to be able to use my bluetooth scanner as opposed to the defacto standard Metrologic/Honeywell MS9520 with these registers. Serial barcode scanners...mmm...that takes me back...

If I have time, I'll continue to have a play with the Electronic Journal data output. I'm interested to see how you are getting on with an Access app. If you want to share, feel free to PM me. I've also done some Access development in the past but I'm more involved in web stuff now.
