can i set more the 8 digts for the derparmant names
also plu are max of 8 digts cab we have more
the book say upto 16 digits

You need to change the department and plu text file. You delete the 'plu (or dept) text 8 characters' file, and create the 'plu (or dept) text 16 character' file.Don't have the codes to hand, but I'll put them on later.
