We have inherited a et 6800 and wish to re program it. Have the manual and the quick start guide but - only seem to get alpha keys a -f when trying to change names on plu or clerk names etc. Thus I thought I would reset everything instead of trying to alter what is already there. When try to reset as per manual i.e hold JF and RF on power up only both rolls feed, reset does not happen. Any thoughts where I start?
Many thanks

I assume you have key in P2 position when you try to reset? Are you using the alphabet key positions on the keyboard and not a code to input letters

Yes, the key is in the appropriate P1 or P2 position when I try to do things as per the manual. The strange thing is it seems to 'almost' work. For example, my first intention was to just change the price and name associated to various keys. I have changed the price OK, that obliterated the already progarmmed name on that key. I then tried to change the name, all seemed to go OK but when I wanted to put in any alpha above 'f' an error occured. So I tried to just call a product 'abc' that just did not seem to save. I was useing the quick set up guide. I then thought I would erase all settings, so refering to the manual did the P2 JF and RF whilst switching on, a few feet of paper later I thought this is not correct. My present thoughts are there is something fundamental I am doing wrong or there is something about this till (hence the idea of a resent to start again). I have seen on another post someone else cold only access a-f on the alpha key layout but I could not find a reply. By the way, this is a flat keyboard. The till will be use by a voulantary organisation to run a 'cafe' so a call out fee for an engineer is just out of the question. We inherited the till and it certainly would be a great asset if we could only use it.
Thanks

Just noticed, I am useing the alpha letters as designated on the programming layout not any codes to put alpha characters in. Not too sure what youmean by putting codes in for letters however.

Sounds odd. As per page 11 of manual

P1
3
STRT
SEL
SEL
INPUT
(ENTER DESCRIPTION)
INPUT

This would change plu 1. If departments and not plu's on keyboard you need to enter the program by substituting 2 for 3 above

Is the register working? It may be that an original eprom if fitted won't clear using RF & JF.

The procedure is P2
Power off
Hold both RF and JF feed buttons down
Power on

After a couple of seconds you should see the display show 'ram clear' or something similar. Release RF and JF and wait until Ram clearing finished and a receipt issues.
If you do clear the memory various flag settings may need to be programmed etc and you won't find any of this in the quick program manual

Just remembered that flag 113 must be set to 01010101 before the register will ram clear. I still suggest that this should be a last resort. The procedure is
P2
Strt
Sel
Input
113
Dsgn
01010101
input

Then try ram clear

Thanks for the suggestions. I may not be able to try these out for a day or two but at least I have something to go on
