Hi guys,
Newbie to this forum. Like to say Hi to everyone and ask for some help with the system.
I got a Geller 780 (or equivalent) and need help with a few issues:

How do I create the layout template for the flat keyboard? Are there any templates I can find on the net or is there some magical tool that helps create them?
Do all these tills have network support or is this a seperate module you need to purchase?
(I haven't got round to ripping the till out of its spot to see whats built in).
Can you use David utilities across the network using LAN without ever connecting an adp11 cable?
And where does this elusive software exist and is it worth getting? I will only be changing a few prices and add a few lines initially. Is there a keyboard layout generator with the utility? Is it useful for backing up and reporting?
Can you connect any printer for printing the reports?
I have the P. manual and it is a long read and not everything is so clear in what looks like a dealer manual.

The previous shop owner did not provide anything more than a ECR with a very dirty keyboard layout which could do with renewing. Fortunately he left a programming layout under the existing keyboard mapping - bet he didn't know it was there.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have a Geller ML790, think the 780 is pretty much the same till. Mine has a flat keyboard.

I've had the till for a couple of years after buying on ebay and been using it since after setting it up myself.

A number of the questions above were questions I had and many are still unanswered.

Creating a Keyboard Template? (I altered the one I had and is getting shabby now)

I always wanted to link the till to a computer (I have a laptop that sits beside the till anyway) but never managed to link them. Is it worth buying software and is it possible to set up myself? I did try to link the till and computer via a Cat5/Ethernet cable, is this the wrong cable?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Craig

MEASURE THE SIZE OF EACH BUTTON [TO THE CENTER OF THE SPACE BETWEEN BUTTONS
CREATE A TABLE IN WORD AND SET THE CELL PROPERTIES AS PER THE KEYBOARD.

THE DAVID SOFTWARE CONNECTS VIA RS232 AND AS SUCH YOU NEED TO CONNECTTO ONE OF THE COMMS PORTS USING THE CABLE SPECIFIED
DEPENDING ON SOLDERING SKILLS YOU COULD CHOP A NETWORK PATCH LEAD IN HALF AND SOLDER ON A 9WAY FEMALE [PINOUTS ARE IN THE BOOK] ITS A BIT OF A STRUGGLE JUST TO EDIT A FEW PLU'S

Thanks Andy. I'll try to knock that up today.

The till occasionally shows error 36 RJ Auto Cut Lock.

I can clear it by pressing clear then release.

I'm sure it's something to do with the receipt cutter.

Any suggestions how to fix it. It's only happening a few times a week.

Thanks.

yup, every one i have seen does it :(
i think that you can turn it off somewhere in the program and use the serrated cutter on the printer cover? [not sure haven't got one in to look at at present - most models give you the option] I'm sure Geller know about it, hence the big thumbwheel on the front of the receipt printer unit

Ok thanks. Mine doesn't have a serrated cutter but it's easy enough to clear so guess will just live with it.

I wasn't sure if it was just sticking. Didn't want to go with any WD40 until I had some advice. May do more harm than good.

wd40 probably won't help its the alignment between the cutter blade, the paper roll cover and the thickness/quality of the paper. [like a pair of scissors with a loose joint opeates but wont cut but if you over tighten it even a fraction, they stick like mad. Your fingers can add significant extra pressure but the cutter motor only has a finite amount of extra "umph"

Happy new year and thank you for allowing me to place my milestone 1000th post!

Just thought I'd add that I've fixed the problem with spray before if it is just the cutter switch, but it usually gets worse. It is a factory fault and they replaced the printers for an improved version. I think they used Seiko instruments printers and they are a heap of trouble in many registers now. If it is close to warranty period, try to see if they will give you the new version of the printer under guarantee. Otherwise, hang in there with the old one for now
