Hi, i've had this till a week and it's driving me to distraction. lB

Firstly I want to connect to the PC(laptop). I'm using a serial cable and usb converter as the laptop does not have a serial port. I have downloaded the 380 PC utility software (version 1.01) Same message everytime - PORT INITIALIZE FAIL, unable to do anything else.

Secondly I have a Voyager 9520 barcode scanner. I've been sent a set up sheet and have scanned this sheet. Everything beeped except the 7th barcode - LF OFF. The instructions I had for PLU's were the following:

P mode 200
subtotal scan item
input desired price without decimal point (** this is as far as I get)
x/time cash
300 subtotal
enter item description
x/time cash

However all i get when I try this is a 'warning sequence error' after I have typed the price.

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP GET ME OUT OF MY MISERY!!

Sorry more notes! Reprinted the setup sheet for the scanner and the 7th barcode worked this time and it played a merry tune once scanned in - dodgy print, however this has changed nothing - still not able to get past the price input stage...

One thing you may want to try first is to make sure the X/TIME button is in fact setup to be that as the buttons can be changed.

Turn your C key to one position past PGM
Enter 70 and press Subtotal
Enter 33 and press X/Time
Press Cash

Thanks, did that but still no joy, i'd like to try and reset to factory defaults and start from scratch, not that i've got very far but it might make it easier for someone to talk me through set up from the beginning if necessary, any ideas how I do that!!!

Done a memory clear and started again.

Still no joy with the scanner getting past the price phase.

Downloaded different PC utility and now have some level of communication between the two (at least no longer getting 'port initialize fail'), HOWEVER, nothing is actually happening, asking it to upload new clerk names for example - it says completed buy the info isn't on the till at all.

I did a Memory All Clear earlier shall I try the Initial Clear too?

Hi

Have you uploaded to the pc in the first instance? If not, do so, then make your changes on the pc, clerks etc, and then download back to the till. Also make sure you have set the correct date and time, and allocated the memory you require to PLU's.

Thanks for your reply.

Hi, did the upload from CR thing, made it worse!!!

I'm using the clerk function to test the settings - dont want to waste time putting PLUs in if I'm gonna lose the info.

Now the PC utility clerk feature has no info at all in the edit program state - i try to add a descriptor/number and save and it wont recognise it, the list just stays blank. I've set names on the CR and they did not download to the comp.

It sounds as though you have confliction between the pc and the till. To be honest, I found that by setting up the till manually, as in dump the pc, things seemed to work a lot better. Although at the moment, my scanner doesn't read the 13 numbers on a barcode for some reason, it's just giving me a 6 digit number.

What I did find, was that it's better to make small changes and make sure they worked, rather than doing a major change and then downloading all at once.

I do think that this till could be responsible for quite a few suicides!

Thanks again.

We have, after much anguish & prozac, discovered that there was a problem with the port allocation from the manufacurers - serial port 2 was actually serial port 1, silly me, I should have known better than to think logically. !Head

That's sorted out the scanner problem and we finally are able to program via the till.

PC now has a new set of nightmares to deal with. Obviously we had to swap ports for the PC cable as well and that has been done sucessfully.

However....We have been told to set our usb converter to com2 and set the utility to com2. Done that. Next we should should 'upprogram', sounds great but we now get the message 'REGISTER NOT READY'.

More headbanging required I think.... lB
