I have recently edited a second hand up x300 epos system donated by another restaurant, instead of master resetting i opted to leave all their hard work on the system an edit their data for a quick setup. all has gone well and have a nice layout with all my products on there, even got the slave till to copy the data accross. only thing is i was getting a few printer error which kept recuring so i took a back up of the system and tried to delete the printer details in pos device programing. Now i get frequent and repetitive messages saying can't print to unknown device. to top it off these consoles dont seem to remember backing up if you unplug them so the previous settings cant be found. we are waiting on some printer com cables so at present there are no printers attached. can this thing run without printers and without errors? or is that why im getting errors?

any ideas where ive gone wrong?

now that ive solved the problem i'll answer my own question. the printer errors were from old data sent to the old printers that i deleted. i went into the windows ce operating system, hard disk 2, printers, and deleted all data. that stopped the printer errors. the tills do work just fine without printers. as for backing up, go into hard disk 2 again (i think) or locate a folder named PRESET, thats your back up folder, just transfer a copy to a data stick, if you ever need to revert to a previous version just copy it back onto the terminals windows ce copying over the current version and your back on your backed up version

Can I just add to that...

Make sure you shut down the till software before changing the preset folder. On the screen that says "It is now safe to switch off" keep tapping the screen until it says return to desktop. Then take a backup.
