Hi,

I'm after a programming manual for the Geller Merlin MP2, can anyone help?

In particular, I want to:
1) Generate a Z report. Moving the key to Z1 and pressing Cash doesn't work - the till just beeps.
2) Reprogram the banner message printed at the top of receipts.
3) Make the till default to cashier A - we're not using the separate cashier buttons, it's a pain that you have to press one.

Thanks for any assistance,

Paul

What type of keyboard does register have, flat or raised? The cash key could have been moved from default position?
Also do you know whether the eprom type is standard or geller issued? This can determine what programming flags you need to change. Also the manuals would differ depending on eprom installed

Hi,

It's the flat keyboard. Pretty sure I've got the right location for the cash key, in the bottom right, as it works as expected in R mode.

No idea what eeprom is installed - how can I find out?

Thanks for your response,

Paul

To find eprom type you would need to take cabinet off. It might be easier to try a few flag settings.
To print a list of current flag settings - turn key to P2 and press the following:

Start
Select
Print

This should print a list of all program flag settings. I assume you have a program overlay for keyboard to show where these buttons reside. If not, Print is at top right-hand corner of keyboard. Start is one position to left of print and Select is beneath Start.

The flag numbers are listed down left side of printout with the settings for each flag opposite flag number.
How many flags are there? What are the settings for flags 4, 6 and 77?

Does the register issue a report with key at X1 and Z2?

Hi,

I've fallen at the first hurdle here - I don't have a key that gets me to P2. Someone has explained how I can file the key down, which I'll have a go at over the next couple of days.

It does give a report in X1 mode BTW.

I'll get back to you when I've filed the key. Thanks for your help,

Paul

Hi,

Ok, the trick with the key worked :-)

There are 160 flags

4 - 08 00001000
6 - 00 00000000
77 - 04 00000100

Regards,

Paul

I have a second till which has somewhat worse problems. I had hoped an initialise (key to P2, off for 30s) would fix this, but it didn't.

In R mode, all the cashier lights, except E come on. In R, X1, V and Z1 modes, all the keys cause a beep, but are generally unresponsive. Some cause a strange character to appear on screen.

From my very limited knowledge, P2 mode is working, at least I can print out the flags. Like the other till, there are 160. But the values are very different (4-E9, 6-FF, 77-0). There are so many 1s in the binary. I wonder if it's had some kind on memory corruption?

Anyway, advice would be much appreciated.

Paul

For the first till flag 6 needs to be changed in order to force the cashier to stay down
key to p2
start
select
6
dsgn
10000000
input

dsgn is underneath print button. The other flags seem fine
Regarding Z report have you tried an initial reset?
Key to p2
Power off. Hold RJ feed down and power up. Release RJ after 10 seconds

The 2nd register sounds like data is corrupted. This could be caused by a faulty logic board or battery. Possibly the machine has been lying a long time and the battery has run down?
You will have to remove the cabinet to carry out a ram clear. It is a simple procedure if you want to try. Turn power off at side-remove top cabinet, 3 screw positions at printer side and possibly one at rear. Hold down small reset button at rear of display unit and power back on.
Keep button pressed for a few seconds until message shows on display. Let it go through reset procedure. Program will default to factory settings

Hi,

Ok, making the cashier key sticky worked.

I am still unable to produce a Z report. I tried the reset using your procedure, didn't seem to do anything. The till doesn't have an RJ button, but I tried it with RF, JF, then both pressed. Still think I'm doing it wrong somehow, as the X1 report is the same as before the reset. BTW, Z2 does not produce a report. I found another key (near bottom right, one in from each edge) that does cash in R mode. In Z1 mode this produces a short report saying "Link valid terminals - 1 // Link invalid terminals - 2"

Regarding the second till, you're right, it had been sat unused for a long time. A RAM clear seems to have helped - the flags seem to have reasonably sane values now. The first thing I'd like to do is program some buttons. But when I press anything, it says "Cashier key required". However, none of the cashier keys work.

Thanks for you advice so far, hope you can help me some more. I could really do with a programming manual for the till, struggling to find one on the 'net.

Paul

Ah

it sounds as if both registers were linked via irc. This would explain the Z report.
Check flags 29,30 and 31 which should all be at zero

Check that flag 19 on second register is set at 1000 and try cashier then. If you pm me I can send you setup procedures
