Does anyone know how to connect a monitor to the TX-850?

Which port is used or is it a special card?

What settings need to be changed?

Is it a standard computer type monitor that is used?

Thanks :)

i very much doubt its a standard pc-monitor
there are no 15 way d types on the machine. i think its a custom kitchen video screen supplied by uniwell, on rs232

Hi

I can only guess but it seems that this is not a regular PC monitor.
Very unlikely that a video signal is generated in the till since this is difficult with longer wires.
I think it's more a terminal which displays the commands coming from the till.
That's why they use RS-485 ports.
It could be done using a netbook PC with terminal software such as HyperTerminal.

But maybe the experts around here can give more detailed information.

Best regards

Onki

I spoke to our friendly till supplier and apparently Uniwell have a box that attaches to the 485 port the same as the kitchen printer, the monitor attaches to the box and a keypad allows users to take orders off the screen as they are done. Sounds great, but cost £1000 excluding the monitor though! :(

Where do I get HyperTerminal?

Hi

Watch your Windows XP carefully :D . WinXP comes with Hyperterminal. But you will need a RS-485 to USB converter and detailed knowledge about the communication protocol.

Best regards

I think crocodilecafe said it all really. £1000 is a good price as well my company would pump this out closer to £1300.

As for Hyperterminal, the only thing you should be using this for is programming a modem that connects to the till.

I think the thing to remember here is that the £1000 will get you a dedicated bit of kit designed to do the job

connecting a "laptop" and viewing the output in hyper terminal will give you nothing more than a stream of the output
which to be frank is as much use to you as a chocolate tea pot

so to get anything usefull you would have to either locate some software (good luck with that) or write your own (again good luck)

also a kitchen is not the best place for a laptop, they dont tend to like things like liquid and grease

so to be honest if you want a kp display in the kitchen, i'd get your cheque book out
