Help! I need to program the two sx-700 tills in the pub I have just bought and the miserable sod that was here before hasn't left the instructions for them. Uniwell want to charge me £50 for the manual, all I want to know is how you program new products and prices in. Can anyone help? Either the software or programming manuals or a walkthrough would be much appreciated. Rich

Hi Rich,

You've come to the right place :D

I'll gladly help you get sorted with these uniwells, the only thing you need to know is the engineer code to get into the programming and the rest is easy. The only problem is i don't want to post this code directly onto the forum and allow everyone to see it.

Has the previous owner left you with either a managers code or an engineer code?

Cheers

Thanks for replying, I've got the manager code and have managed to do most of the simple bits now- I've done all the basic product naming and pricing, i now have to do the look up PLUs (getting into the lingo too!) for things like wine lists and food menus.

BUT!!!

I have made a major error tonight, I was re-assigning the look up PLU buttons to keys where I wanted them, and accidentally pressed the enter key twice, this removed the enter key by turning it into a lookup PLU key (there was a lot of swearing as soon as I did it)

So, what I now need to know is-
1 Can I plug an external keyboard in to get round the problem?
2 Can I clone one epos unit from another (I have 2 tills and want them to be identical, can i do this without inputting everything again)

many thanks,

Hi,

Well done with the programming, it's really not that difficult once you get going is it? :D

These cash registers have two keyboard layouts programmed into their memory, 1 is a programmable keyboard and the other is completely fixed. So the way to reprogram the Enter key is to;
Switch the keyboard to the fixed keyboard (where the enter key will still be functional) enter the programming menu, reprogram the enter key, then switch it back into the programmable keyboard (and your enter key will now be working again)

Below is a copy of where all the keys will be once you've switched to the fixed keyboard, chances are the scroll and enter keys will be in different places to your normal keyboard. Also take note of the 3 keys marked with a red cross.

downloads/images/sx700keyboard.jpg

Here is the procedure:

Turn the key to the SP postion
Turn the till off at the power or by the switch under the lip down the righthand side of the till
Hold down all 3 keys marked with the red cross at the same time
Turn the till back on whilst holding those keys firmly down

Somewhere on the screen you should see this message flash up: [F0] (If you don't see this flash up you may not have done it correctly, turn the till off and start again. You can do this as many times as you need until [F0] is reached)

Once in this mode you can logon with your manager pin using the new keyboard layout mentioned above, and reporgram the enter key in the same way you unprogrammed it last time  (Basically, go into the function key programming, scroll down the list and find ENTER, press Enter on it, then press the actual key where you want ENTER to be on your normal keyboard)

When done, press CL 3 times then Clerk I.D. to finish programming.

Now if you repeat the procedure exactly as you did earlier by holding the 3 keys down and this time look for the message [F1], like before you can do this as many times as you need to. Once the till is switched back to F1 it should be back to normal with the enter key working again.

I'll leave you with this for now and when you get sorted we'll discuss transfering the data from one till to another as this can easily be acheived as long as the correct cable is used.

Good Luck.

Regards

Thankyou!

Latest update- I now have an enter key again!!!!
I have also finished programming ALL the drinks and food from the pub menu onto both hard PLUs and Look up PLUs. Sorted. All nice and simple.

I have a couple of bits of which I am unsure-

1. Kids portions of food-
I have set the prices in the individual PLUs so that (price 1) is the standard price.
On spirits I have set (price2) as the double price and this works fine (using the price modifier 1 "double" button).
On Beers I have set (price 3) as the 1/2 pint price and this too works fine (using the price modifier 2 "half" button).
However, if try the same with a meal in a look up PLU ie. pressing > "Sunday Lunch"> "Half"> "Roast Beef" it does not work. Any ideas?

Right, on to No. 2. Manual Price Entry-
We do daily specials, the prices of these varies from day to day depending on what is available I would like an "Open Food" button where I can type a price manually, then press the "Open Food" key and have it show up as £5.95 Open Food for example. I am unsure of how to do this. If I try to call a hard PLU "Open Food" it won't let me override the price.

Lastly, 3- Reports
I want to print a report at close of buiness each day.
The report needs to reset all the totals so i know the totals for each day in turn, giving me a breakdown of the amount taken for food, beer, wine etc.
(All the products have been assigned a group in their PLU settings ie. group 1 is all the draft beers, group 2 is bottled beers etc.)
I don't think I need to do any other reports, unless perhaps a report of how much clerks have rung into the till, this would be useful if there was a massive overring so I know who to beat with a stick.

Hope you can help- nearly finished i think!

Hi,

Glad you're getting sorted, hopefully this will clear up the extra bits: :D

1. As far as i can remember you need to press the Half key first, before pressing the lookup menu. > "Half" > "Sunday Lunch" > "Roast Beef"

2. You need to setup the PLU just the same as you would any other PLU, the only difference is that you need to enter a value into the HALO box. Most people just enter 95 which means any figure can be rang into it. A HALO is basically a maximum amount that can be rang into the PLU and it is made up of 2 digits, the first digit is the first number of the maximum amount and the second digit is the number of zeros. (Eg, a halo of 54 would mean a maximum amount of 500.00 can be rang into it. A halo 23 would be 20.00 etc.

3. All the reports the system can do are listed under the 181 menu. The best thing to do is look down the list and select which ones you would like to do, Full Transaction, PLU and Clerk are the most popular. Then you just press enter on the ones you'd like and set the security level 8 to YES. Then when you login under X or Z1/P postions you should see only the ones you have selected.

Hope this makes sense, let me know how you get on

Regards

All good.

1. Done- had to allow moifiers on the individual PLU's thats what was needed

2. Done- wasnt able to use the keys I wanted though. was going to use PLU keys 88 and 96, 96 was fine but 88 (which was a lookup PLU key before) kept coming up as "NO SUCH PLU"even though i'd assigned the key as plu 88 from the flexible key layout option. Missing something there I think. Had to find 2 other spare keys to use.

3. Reports- How do I find the 181 menu you mentioned? I'm assuming that its a menu for altering what features each type of report has but can't find it. What key position does it come under- SP, Z1, Z2 etc.?

the current auto Z report seems to do most of the things I want but needs tweaking.

Once again, many thanks for your help.

Hi,

The 181 menu comes under the SP position. (I've PM'd you a little extra info) have a look through it first and if it doesn't make any sense just let me know.

cheers

Can anyone help with with a Uniwell sx-8505? I need to access the default keyboard as the enter and CL buttons have been assigned as something else!

To get into the basic programming, the key turns to sp, press number 1 and then clerk ID. Is then a 'special' engineer code for the SX-8505?

I knackered the till in at my bossses pub - its a uniwell sx-8505! PLEASE HELP ME!!!
