what would you recommend ?
we 2 cash reg and are using an old software program called Athene - very basic
I want something that will do stock control. we have a forecourt .
should I invest in new machines and if so what do you rec

athene was developed in the 80's i think
Samstock is definitely the way to go - but 6500 are old as the hills and must surely be clapped out by now?

if you are only using 1 machine then a 5200 will do
if you want to link more than 1 machine to the back office, you will need a 7000
or if you want the "bling factor" go for a 520 or 530

As you may have guessed , I have no retail experience - I dont work in the store myself but manage it behind the scenes.
what I really want the system to do.......
1. Stock control - maybe with a 'wand' thingy that will make stock taking easier ( at present we are doing stock taking with pen paper)""
2. maybe intergrated fuel sales
3. perhaps integrated ' fuel cards ' DCI cards etc
4. Integrated credit card ??
5. We have a lot of customers who get fuel on account and I would like a failsafe way of entering these on till - at present they are recorded in an invoicce book and on the till as a 'charge ' DOUBLE WORK ALL THE WAY.

My wish list !! but I wonder would you be so kind as to give me your opinion also on the sam SPS2000 with regard to the above.

i personally wouldn't touch the 2000 with two bargepoles tied end on end!

they have given me trouble from both a harware and software perspective and i blatantly refuse to sell them - stick with your 6500's!

look at full blown touch screen terminals in the tec range [expensive but quality]
or a j2 - but from a software point of view, icr touch which still integrates with samstock this combination will fulfill all the points in your wish list at a cost [the "wand thingy" will cost you about a grand!!!]

not keen on credit card integration on any product but ............
