Good Day.

Could you please help me? i want to connect the register via usb to my computer and i'm using Pc-Link XE-A203A213 to program keys and pull reports. However, when i try to connect to the register in the program I get a communication error asking me to check the poweer and that the cable is pluged in. I am running on XP and uninstalled and reinstalled the program and the drivers and it still comes up with the connection error. 6 hours later and I'm starting to go a lttle crazy !excited

Please help..... !worthy

Are you turning the key to PGM to switch it into communication mode ?

Try leaving the key in REG mode, then plug the register into the PC, then check that you can see the register if you click the 'eject hardware' icon (green arrow in system tray area). This will tell you if the driver is working.

Ok, I've tried that and it's still thinking it's not there (only in the program though, device manager says it's working fine). : lB

I've only ever had driver problems. If the driver is fine, then I can't see why you are having issues.

Perhaps I don't have the correct link program. Can anybody point me in the correct direction of the link software for XE-A203 please.

Hi Folks,

I'm having similar problems and others have done too in other forums - annoyingly, these are all still unresolved.

The issue appears to be I can install the program (XE-A203 Customer Support Tool 'CST') but not subsequently the USB drivers hence the error message relating to comms when you then try to up or download.

In the setup screen of the CST program there is a 'before installation' button which brings up a set of screenshots helpfully taking you through the process. It all works fine until the section which tells you to connect the USB cable and switch on the A203. I've tried this on two PC's and have the same result. The USB installation is never offered it simply detects the A203 as new hardware and tries to take you through the installation process for that (in spite of the fact you've just installed the software!)

Most frustrating! I'm plugging the USB directly into the PC (i.e. not via a hub which eliminates any power issues) and following the instructions to the letter.

Any insight would be most welcome!

OK, I've finally achieved comms between my PC and the XE-A203, here's how. I should explain I've taken over a business which has ceased trading and found a whole pile of kit including this ECR there, with no software, no leads, and no manual. I was unwilling to pay someone £50 to program it (or £25 or more for a cheap printer cable and a bit of software obtainable on the web for free) So if you're as mean as I and in the same position read on....

Go to http://registrierkassen-kassenrollen.de ... ungen.html and I'd advise clicking on 'translate' if you don't speak German.

Scroll down the page and click on "Programmiertool XE-A203/213 (Zip-Datei - 4,6 MB)" it's right near the bottom, ignore the manual .pdf's above it - although they are more accurate than the US/Canadian ones you'll see elsewhere on the net.

When you click on the link the programmiertool will download as a zip file. I created a folder and unzipped all the files into it, ran the set-up and then followed the instructions as before. Surprise surprise it still didn't work, first the USB driver install screen didn't come up after the program installation and then when I tried loading data into the ECR I got a communication error message as before (see my post above)

I was about to give up when I went into Windows device manager (Right-click 'My Computer', click 'Manage', and then click 'Device Manager') clicked on the A203/213 (It might be under 'USB' devices or 'other' devices, but it'll be in there somewhere) and then 'update driver' and shazam it all worked after. I think it's picking up the driver sitting in the (no surprise here) drivers folder you unzip with the program. I've successfully done this on two PC's so it wasn't just luck.

This is version 1.1 for the 203/213 which is actually slightly more basic and clunkier than 1.0 for the 203 but it does work. Use any old USB printer cable but plug it straight into the USB ports your PC rather than using a hub as there are power issues. Good luck! !bop

BTW I downloaded my own logo onto the thing which was a struggle as you are not allowed a logo with more than 35% black in it - I had to keep thinning down the font - and found it will take an input from the PC in reg mode as well as pgm mode. To check the receipt printing I kept having to press the 'no sale' key to get one out - in program mode it prints the entire status which is about a foot and a half long - in reg mode you just get a standard receipt. Worth remembering...
