I have just moved into a pub and there is a Uniwell PX-5750 till already there. Problem is, the previous tenants have altered all of the PLU hard buttons around and there is no price shift button in use and various other functions I would find useful have been overwritten. The local service centre will come out and reprogram it but I don't fancy paying £100 when the software itself seems pretty straightforward to use. My problem is as below...

I am pretty good with computers and have downloaded the PLM2000 software but cannot get it to connect with the ECR for the life of me. I have a USB to serial adapter; have that connected straight into the serial port of the till and it is not working when I click "send file to ECR" (or words to that effect, don't have the program on this computer).

Any help would be much appreciated with this. I also wanted to check I am using the right model. When you go to communications, it asks you to chose the model of the till. I have selected PX-5750 but then it asks whether it is 01 or 02 etc. How do I know exactly what model I have as I cannot find anywhere on the till that states that!

Hi,

You need a lead specifically for Uniwell tills. Male D9 to Female D9. If your laptop/computer does not have a serial port then you can use a USB to serial adapter but not all USB to serial adapter's work.

You will also need to have the correct settings in the till. The settings are different from one bit of software to another.

So to start off have you got the correct lead?

To check the version of your till, turn the key to SP, type in 9902, press X key then press the .(decimal point) key. A little docket will print with the version of your till.

Thanks for your reply and sorry for the delay - I don't have internet access at the pub at the moment and no signal for my Blackberry :-(

I have now purchased the correct lead and I have wheeled my 12 year old PC out which has serial built into the mb! Amazingly it is still working and runs the PLM2000 quite smoothly.

Right I have a PX5750-03-V2.40.

I'm still getting communication error whilst trying to download the current ECR layout! I think I was confusing myself as all I need to do is to program the auto subtract discount button for happy hour which according to the manual is (-) but I cannot find this key anywhere! I have now worked out how to change prices using the actual SP func on the till itself but still need that happy hour button!!
