Hi

I have a new Sam4S SER-7040 cash register and SamStock version 4.9.1
I've been trying to get these up and running for some time and have been having several problems. The main problem is that I'm not able to view any financial reports in Samstock.
I am able to view reports relating to products such as stock level no problem. However when I run a financial report it returns blank (page 0 of 0).

I know that data is successfully being collected from the ECR during my collect Z SamEvents because when I run stock reports the stock level is changing accordingly.

I have paid the company that sold me the ECR and software for support but we are struggling to find a solution.

The support advisor believes the problem may stem from this...
In Samstock the currency displays in $ rather than £. Also the date displays in US format rather than UK. I have been told that this is a computer preference rather than Samstock preference.
I have checked the control panel on my computer and the currency and date settings are correctly set to UK. Does anyone know if there is another place which where a preference needs to be changed?

Many thanks in advance

Is your pc running xp or 7 and secondly was the pc bought in the UK? I've come across US spec computers that do not like to be made unamerican!
In windows xp there is just the regional settings for countries, (apart from date and time obviously),although click on the advanced tab to make sure it is showing £'s. Sometimes programs prefer the short date format, can't remember if that bothers Samstock, although if it's showing the date the wrong way round that won't come into it!
There could also be some software that came preinstalled on your pc that is holding it at the wrong country settings, depends on what make it is.

Hi

Thanks for your post. I am running Wondows 7 on a Samsung S3511.
Under Control Panel>Region and Language>Formats, I have checked the additional settings section and the currency/date preferences have been applied for the UK.

It baffles me!

I can't think what else it can be apart from something samsung has put on. I don't have my 7 pc with me at the moment, but I'll check it again for any other settings I can't think of off the top of my head! Although I'm running 7 Pro, I don't think home would have any extra settings.

Yes mine is Windows 7 Home Premium. It seems unlikely that it could be in a setting elsewhere.
My Samstock support advisor says point blank that this is what is causing my problems in Samstock but I have no idea what else I can do to sort it out :(

One of the programs I use wants short date format. In regional settings you'll see 'Short Date', if you change it to dd/mm/yy and see if that makes a difference. Don't know why samstock is showing the $ sign though if windows is showing £.

the software writers are aware of the issue but no idea what triggers it.
the cure is very simple

change region to america/anywhere else in the world- reboot
change regional settings back to uk and reboot again - job done!

not so sure that this is the reason for no financial data - what time is set under "end of day"
have you tried looking at historic data -ie financial for yesterday or the day before?

Thanks for your reply Andy, much appreciated.

Indeed we did as you suggested and yes, the currency in Samstock is now displaying in £ and the date in format dd/mm/yyyy!

We have tried running some financial reports (daily financial totals, and day by day totals) for today, yesterday and the day before but these still return blank.

The end of day is set to 23.30. I was advised that this needs to be set for a time AFTER you want to run the Z collect samevent (I had previously assumed that it would be the other way round).

We do think that information is coming across from the ECR to Samstock but it seems that the problem is in generating the reports. We say this because firstly the stock levels are changing in accordance with sales at the ECR (the current stock level report seems to work ok). Also we had a nose at the files in:
SamstockV4>Samevent>archive
and
SamstockV4>Samstock>data>CashDay.DAT (this updated at the time of the collect Z performed in Samevent)
Although we don't really know what we're looking at, some of the information in the archive looked familiar as the test transactions we had put through the ECR.

Any more advice would be much appreciated, as we don't really have any new leads to go on.

Thanks

ok,
lets assume that on the first of the month, you zero'd the till from samevent after the end of trading - say 6pm.

this would appear on the 31st of the previous month BECAUSE IT WAS PERFORMED BEFORE 23.30.

how are you cashing up the till? is it set to pull a z1 or z2?
are the figures going back to zero each day?
have you changed the default prepoll command line for your type of register?

have you any failed events in the samevent log [or is the samevent clock spining round in the task bar?]

are you performing a collction by hand or on a timer - and at what time?

sorry so many questions but its a complex issue - you could copy and paste the samevent logs on this site to give us a bit of a head start.

Hi Andy

Good news - we are now getting financial reports!
The dealer told me that I needed to have the end of day time set to AFTER the time that I would perform the Z collect. Didn't seem logical and indeed it wasn't, we ran a daily financial and it was showing the sales for 01.02.12 on 31.01.12.
We have now changed the end of day to BEFORE the time of Z collect and everything seems to working fine (touch wood).

We haven't actually started using the till yet as I wanted to check everything first. We have another lower spec cash register which we are still using, but I'm planning to go live tomorrow :)

We have been told by the dealer never to run a Z report on the till as this would confuse the collection of data by SamEvent. Instead we can run X reports viz the till to check sales through the day. I don't know the difference between Z1 and Z2 (our current till just has a single Z report). Would you agree with this?

I wasn't planning on zeroising sales on the till - but is this something you would reccommend doing periodically?

Haven't changed the prepoll command line (don't know what it does!). Now things are working I'll try to fiddle as little as possible! I think it was being in US settings that was causing the issues - I hope they sort this out for the next version as it was so frustrating.

Thanks for your help. Hopefully things wil run more smoothly from here...
