Hi

I'm wondering if someone can help me please?

I have a Sam4s ER-380M till and just bought a barcode scanner (orbit) and what I would like to do is setup the barcode scanner and use it with the Sam4s ER-380M, so my questions are :-

1. What else would I need to setup the barcode scanner?
2. How to check to see if I have got a memory installed in the Sam4s ER-380M, as I was told that I'll need this?
3. I've got setup38M_v105a installed, what cable would I need to connect the PC to the Sam4s ER-380M?

would appreciate if someone can guide me step at a time please?

Thanking you all in advance

Faz

the scanner should work straight out of the box as long as you have set up the port on your till to look for a scanner.
unless you ordered your till specifically with additional memory, there will not be one installed.
if you press the x/time key, you should see the number of plu's in use and the maximum number of plu's available.
if you have 300, then when the machine was originally set up with the default allocation.
this is most definitely not the way to go if you wish to go scanning.
Even fully rammed, this machine is only capable of 5000 plus max - but you will have to forsake a lot of other features to get close to that number.
I'm not a salesman but in my honest opinion, if you want to go scanning, invest in a more capable machine.

thanks for the prompt response andy-the-diver.
the shop that we are running has less then 5000 items
do u know where i can get the memory from and how much i should be looking to pay for it?

the barcode scanner powers up once plugged and scans items but no price is shown on display, not sure how to program an item to the till, any instructions would help?

thanks again

you have to program the items in 3 steps
program 200 to set the price
program 300 to set the name
program 150 to set the group

there are more options but these are the bare minimum.
each item has to be scanned three times in each of the programs.

look at page 89 of your manual for details.

The ram chips should be available from your dealer circa twenty quid. PLEASE NOTE YOU SHOULD NOT BE REMOVING THE TOP FROM YOUR REGISTER UNLESS YOU ARE SPECIFICALLY TRAINED AS AN ELECTREONIC ENGINEER!
THERE IS RISK OF ELECTROCUTION AND DEATH.
FAILURE TO FOLLOW STRICT ELECTROSTATIC PRECAUTIONS MAY RENDER THE MACHINE INOPERATIVE.

I WOULD STRONGLY SUGGEST LEAVING THIS MODIFICATION TO YOUR DEALER - ITS NOT AS SIMPLE AS UPGRADING THE RAM IN A PC!

where in the country are you?

Hi,
Thanks for the info, will try these once I get the RAM upgraded first.
I'm in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.
If anyone is close to me, would be happy to pay someone to provide, upgrade memory and show me (once) how to program an item in.
The scanner has not been programmed yet so not sure if this is difficult to do or not!!
Thanks again for the advise and support
