Hi there,

I'm having the same problem as others seem to have had in the past regarding the utility program for the ER-5200M. This thread http://www.eposwizard.co.uk/post9298.html?hilit=pc%20utility#p9298 seems to mirror the exact problem that I've got.

I downloaded the Australian version of the PC Utility, having trawled the internet for hours looking for a free programming utility, from here http://www.goodson.com.au/support/download_sam4s.htm.

I can't access the forum linked as a solution - there appears to be no way to register?:

HI you have the wrong version.. try the latest http://www.ycr.co.uk/faq/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1388
what ever you do dont use your current software and communicate back to the register as it will screw everything up..

Stupidly, I DID communicate back to the register so 1 of my 2 tills is now out of action! Luckily I do have 2 identical registers so with the correct software I'm assuming I can just transfer the data from the working register to the other?

If you could please provide me with a link to the correct version of the pc utility for my register then I would be eternally grateful... We have a busy weekend ahead of us & will need 2 registers up and running!

Other info... from UK... Not entirely sure of register version?

Thanks in advance,
George

the link is for the software distributers and the log in is for dealers only [to stop the exact problem you have created for yourself]

to help, we need to know the exact version of the till you have 5200 or 5200m for a start,
its eprom version next. there are 3 uk versions and 3 different flavours of register

I see. The register is a 5200M - not entirely sure of the eprom version... Is there a way to check?

Sent you a pm also.

An update:

Eprom info:

Version : 3.7MR YCR
Checksum: C8CC
Boot/App: 2CDC/9BF0
Feb 26 2008

Tried grabbing data from the working till using utility version 3.00c & still having the same problem as with 3.00e; the plu data is corrupted.

The only other factor than software version that I feel could be causing this is the serial cable that I'm using - I rewired such that pins 2 -> 3 & 3-> 2 (obviously). I have read that in order to be fully null modem there should be some other changes to the pin layout - could this be an issue?

I'm assuming that in flashing the till to the latest eprom version I'll lose all programmed data so I'm nervous to do so until I have a proper backup.

Thanks again,
George

bloody hell!!!! :?

you can't even get a plu upload correct - with an unknown or dodgy comms cable!!!!!!!

attempting a bios upgrade with all these issues is tant amount to suicide.

Stick to one problem at a time - even i get nervous doing bios upgrades and ive been in the job for 30 years!

ok, version of eprom is not supported by v3 utility. try the earlier version that i know you have
i'm about 70% sure it's the right one.
logically, if you managed to pull stuff back - albeit scrambled, suggests a working comms cable -havent got the spec to hand but i know its on this forum somewhere.

Once we have established good consistancy in till to pc communication, then and only then attempt to flash the bios.

Yeah I'm not really too bothered about flashing the eprom - have looked at the update notes & don't see any real need to do so!

Have successfully reprogrammed all my PLUs as the old system was so outdated with old products etc.

What I really want to do is to use the till for my stock takes; am a little unsure as to going about this. For example we sell wine in 175ml, 250ml and by the bottle (750ml) measures - is there any way to program the till to remove a percentage of the stock for different PLUs? ie. ideally set 1 bottle as 1 unit and remove 1/3rd of the stock if a large glass is sold? This also applies for half pints & pints, how would one go about programming the till to keep account of the stock?

Thanks very much for your help so far,

George

there are 2 schools of thought here.
The first sets up recipies 1 pint = 1/88 barrel etc. this is a nightmare in my opinion - especially for spirits as it will depend on you using the same size bottle every time - rather than the choice of 70cL ,1L or3L bottles !what

The other is to keep stock by sales unit ie 1 pint = 1 unit of stock. 1/2 pint = 1 unit of stock. At the end of a stock period, if you have sold 450 pints and 220 halves of carling, thats 560/88 barrels. !thumbs

For wine etc you need to set up large and small, then work out how many sales units in a bottle again there are issues as to the size of the bottle - or do you keep stock by the case !what

Stock is complicated and at the end of the day, use the method that you find easiest to control and the most practical for your business from day to day.
