Samstock is making me want to throw the till and the computer through the front window!!!!!!

The generic software that i bought with the till:
if i poll a report for stock, i have maybe 20 items...
If i poll a report for PLU i have a good 1000, but the descriptions are all wrong - weird characters, and part of the description is missing.
I ran a report on X2 Plu this afternoon - fantastic! It seems like everything is listed, correct descriptions on the whole - a few that could be deleted - but some even had a count next to them (i haven;t worked out how to do that yet, so wonder how the till knows how many i have??) but there was a comprehensive list - 58 pages.
Now, this list does not appear anywhere else....when I try and edit PLU, the list is a third the size - and the descriptions, prices and barcodes are incorrect.

Having bought Samstock after opening - and after everything was- and continues to be - scanned into the till (stock changes all the time - lingerie shop, so very seasonal)
I have managed to set up supervisor, name the store, vat rate etc and had set up departments (before i uninstalled the whole thing to start again)
I have tried to run Samevent and upload from the till to samstock, it takes an age, and everything appears as before - weird characters, wrong prices, and nowhere near enough stock'...

I can't seem to upload the x2 stock report from the till to the Samstock software -( I am assuming I could name departments and move the stock into those departments?)

So, can anyone PLEASE tell me Why can't I see my stock anywhere but the X2 PLU report (gives me a count and a total - perfect!) - - why can't i just import that into Samstock???? wouldn't it be simpler - even morons like me would be able to do it!...tried changing the file extension to .imp for import, but no it wasn't having that!

I messed about and manually entered a couple of items into Samstock, and they are there, but i just don;t have the time to enter everything like that...my kids miss me enough as it is!


I await a kind souls help and assistance....wishing i'd stuck to paper and pen and gone on holiday with the money i'd saved

when you are in the edit view, make sure that you are viewing in "all groups" mode or the reason you are only seeing a few items is because of the filters that are set
the 420 is a very good machine as an introduction into epos - though in my opinion, is a little limited in the amount of products it can hold - even with the memory fully upgraded.As for Samstock, it just has to be the most user friendly back office software i have ever had the pleasure to support!

I'm still stuck - not sure how i'm supposed to change the 'veiw' in the 420Mpc software....Still can't see everything in 'edit program' 'plu'

Have managed to get the stock from till to SAMSTOCK (and, yes, i'm sure for someone who perhaps has used many, older types of back office software, Samstock must be much simpler, but it's still- in my humble opinion, far too complicated - and i'm no tecnophobe!)

So, I have a good - seemingly full list of stock in the Samstock: 'Maintenance', 'Stock', 'By Detail' window...The unistall/reinstall worked i think..
As well as correct codes and ECR Descriptions, there are a good number of odds and sods - maybe where the scanner wasn't configured properly originally (sooo completely new to all this, didn;t realise i had to scan a list of stuff before anything else), plus of course where staff (and myself) have messed up a code and pressed cancel- would that still be logged?...I have tried deleting these odds and ends by going into the above address (maintenence, stock by detail). All looks good, then I run Samevent and 'send changed items' to the till - even tried 'send all ' but when I scan the new, changed item, it's the same, incorrect description it was before... After new stock/sizes come in, they are scanned into the ECR, then I 'Collect Products' from the ECR - I go back into Samstock and all the codes i deleted are back!!

Also:
I cant seem to find out how to change the currency in Samstock...in the reports, it lists everything in $.
I may be being a bit dense (I'm sure you'd agree) but if you could point me in the right direction, i'd appreciate it

samstock in $ is a first for me!
can see u r online, hang on a sec and i'll look at my copy - what version of samstock are you running?

the huge thing you are doing wrong is "collect products from ecr"
that overwrites all your hard work.
the incorrect codes are in the till not the software - that is untill you sent them to the software from the till!

Ah...so i just leave the bits of code in the till?? won't this use up the memory? - I assumed plu would 'sync' or overwrite if i sent from pc to ECR...?

Samstock version 4.9 says 'copyright YCR Distribution 2009'

ok no worries

when you are sure that the products are all in samstock, the way to go is to delete the plu file in the till then send all products from samstock.
samstock adds products to the till but does not delete them, so, yes you are quite correct, this does have an adverse effect on the cash register's available memory.

the dollar sign has nothing to do with samstock!
i assume that the pc that you are running it on is also new?
go to control panel and check in regional settings that the pc knows i'ts in the uk
[if that is wrong, chances are that the time zone and keyboard are not set correctly either]

thanks Andy....not at the shop until Weds, when i will check..though i'm pretty sure the timezone is correct on the new PC (windows 7 which I hate!)...The company that sold me the software told me this would work with windows 7/vista.

So, going back to deleting plu's from the ECR....
When i go into the 420Mpc utility, on the edit plu screen, when i right click to delete plu's (btw, this list still does not give me a comprehensive list of stock - the plu codes are all about 30 digits long, looking a little like this: 99966600000502-9005148925002, with strange descriptions, and prices such as $45693.256 (bit expensive for a bra!)...some descritions look a little like the ones in the ECR, but with one end missing eg: PM3906IVY36G, will look like: 06IVY36G.....so not clear to me what's going on there..

what i was getting to, was that when i right click on an item in the edit plu screen in 420mpc software, i get a message flash up saying: 'fatal error at 'onclicklist' '
not liking the 'fatal' bit!! help!
