I have read all thru the posts just to make sure I'm not just being an idiot, but this is one topic I did not find and I really need an answer as I look like a complete IDIOT at work.
I use the SAM52 polling system, as the only thing I do with the register is clear it after uploading to it. I haven't been able to get the register to read the new PLUs that I add and upload. It will read the older PLUs, but often "forgets" some of them. I need to keep my cashiers at their station and not running around the store looking up prices and there should be no reason at all for me to put price stickers on everything...it's in the system, but the register isn't recognizing it.
Today I looked up memory allocations and noticed that PLUs are only allocated for 3000. I have over 4000 active PLUs in the polling system. Am I right thinking that "allocated" means I can only have 3000 PLUs in the system? Is this why the register makes me look like a complete idiot even though I am a computer geek?
My SAM rep/programmer won't reply to my calls and I can't loose my job because of him not answering my calls! I can't figure out which version I'm using but I'm pretty sure it needs an upgrade. My cashiers write down every item that doesn't "ring" up and it's in the system. I have had to change a few PLUs because of the security numbers. I know how to check the register to see what it is scanning, but even after changing to those numbers, it still won't recognize the product code....HELP PLEASE!!

Okay, I'm here at work, so I can give you more info.
The Sam52 version is 2.6.0

Under memory allocation it says:

Total Memory 1212720
Total Used 277235

That tells me that I should still have just under 1G of memory left, right?
But the allocated PLUs is still 3000.
Is there anyway to change the allocated PLU number? Or does that mean that the register only has memory for 3000? I'm confused, please help!
Thanks

Thanks gang for reading thru this post and letting me rant, but I've figured it all out, just took some brain useage! ha-ha. And the boss doesn't wanna upgrade anything because he's trying to sell the place....he keeps saying we're out of here in two weeks....two weeks was three months ago! I'd love to take it over, but money isn't in my pocket, and he isn't one to trust anyone (even his daughter-in-law) to manage the place, which would be best for him.

I want to track the trends and so forth of the grocery store, but he always knows more than anyone, or anything...including a computer!

I know that I have to dump all the old PLUs that we don't have anymore, or that have changed over time. My Sam rep doesn't remember how to print out a report of PLUs that are on my computer, so I'd love if someone could tell me how to do it....it would make my life easier! All I need is an inventory sheet telling me what PLUs Sam has in it, so I can just take the paper around with me and cross off what we don't have anymore. Any help is appreciated! I will also play around at work with it, but this brain gets tired easy, so please help!

Thanks

ok lets
s start at the beginning
a 5200 has no where near a gig of memory - even fully rammed! !Head

the ram is a finite "bucket" of memory that has to be dished out - or "allocated"
it will involve a ram clear but more memory can be allocated to plu's and taken from other resources - such as clerks etc !Yes

the down side to this is that you will lose absolutely everything currently in the register.
take a plu dump from the register first. !thumbs

Thank you Andy for delivering the bad news. I did know it in the back of my brain, but didn't want to accept it!

I may be a computer geek to a point but I don't know this program since all I usually do is change the prices on specific things every week and update prices as they are increased. But now I'm not even changing prices every week, which leaves me more time to mess with this damn thing. I am currently printing off all the plu's that are in the program..yes, I know that these aren't exactly what is in the register, but it's a start. I can't shut down the register long enough to do what I need to do to it. Boss man won't let me mess with things he doesn't understand, so I have to do things the hard way. So just to be the jerk I can be, I'm printing out ALLLLL 4065 PLUs...haha! WOW...only took half an hour...but this is where the fun starts. I get to go thru the store in search of every fricken thing and check UPC codes...oh joy! Wish me luck!

Thanks to all!
