I received a ECR-4640 which I now prepare for use. I als find the user manual on the Internet.
But I encounter two, maybe related, problems whith programming and use.

I cannot make the Z-report, the ECR gives a E1 error.
Secondly I cannot log-off a clerk. Sometimes I saw the "closed"
message on the display but I cannot make this happen again.

how are you trying to perform a z?
please post the exact procedure

how you log off th clerk deends on how they are programmed

try just hittin the clerk again eg if clerk 1 is logged in, hit the clelrk 1 button [or clerk A]
failing that, try entering zero into the clerk 1 button

this is a general reply as i have not played with that particular model
