I am looking for suggestions on programming an extra button on the Samsung ER420m.

From October 1 the new legal requirments in Wales mean that shopkeepers have to charge for bags/carrier bags.

The enforced charge will be 5p minimum, and we have to keep strict records of this charge.

I already have nine preset department prices on the CR, all of which are used.

However to keep record of the carrier bag transactions I need an extra department/price preset.

Is it possible that one of the other unused buttons can be utilized,(MDSE RETURN, PRICE LEVEL2 etc)

Anyone able to assist on this please.

9 is a strange number!
as standard, the 420 comes with 3 columns of 4 plus - giving 4, 8 or 12'
i have seen them with the first and second rows configured with double buttons - but that would still only give you 8.

i have never tried to allocate plus to other buttons on the keyboard but if the plu code numbers are listed in the button table - then i cant see why not.

failing that, if you allocate the bags to plu 300 for instance, you could type 300 into the plu button every time you sell one?

Sorry Andy, I must have had a funny five minutes, the keyboard does have 12 presets.

I do not normally use standard PLUs as my shop has fixed price points, can I for example program say 1 PLU for 5p then just ring 1 PLU for each bag sold?

Have I got this right?

Sorry to be so eager to get this right, but the Welsh Assembly are going to ask for records to be shown. Apparently any member of the public can also demand to see these records too. I can't really see how its going to work, but we've got to do it.

i wouldnt recommend using plu 1 as this will override the button on the keyboard.
either use plu 13 [then you have to enter 13 into the plu button - its faster just to type it in!
or preset one of your 12 buttons or add a 13th button [yes i double checked, you can add more buttons to the keyboard]
