Sharp XE-A213 not communicating with PC

Hello, I have just purchased a Sharp Xe-A213 and have downloaded the PC-Link XE-A203A213 from your site. I have followed the instructions after connecting the Cash Register by USB Cabele to my PC and I keep getting Communication Error.
I have looked through the forum and the only thing I can up with is that I may be using the wrong cable. Should I be using a RS232 cable and is there a switch on the Cash Register I should be turning on?
Please help if you can.

Hi.
That's strange. The 213 usually works straight away. You do use USB on this model. Make sure you are in REG mode on the cash register, and you must not be currently in a sale. I always do a 'no sale' before I communicate to make sure the drawer opens.

Hello Mark, I successfully down loaded the utilty programe to my PC using Windows XP. I have now purchased a Laptop with windows vista and unable to download the utility programe onto it, can you help please.

Yeah, that would be right. I think the notes said WIN XP only. I think the USB driver part is probably not compatible with Vista.

I just checked, yep. A note with the software warns no Vista compatibility. You might have to stick with your XP machine when programming, or prog it on the register itself.

I bought the laptop especially to work side by side with the cash register. Oh well I am sure I can find a use for it.

i have just purchased an xea213 it came with the usb lead and a cdr disk that is blank, i cannot find out where to download the pclinksoftware from to enable me toprograme the register your advise would be helpfullthanks mick
