Hi Wizard.

We have recently taken ownership of 2 x SX-700 tills as part of a pub purchase. The cabling seems to suggest it was linked to the kitchen but we have no printers in the kitchen or the bar, so I can't do X/Z readings or print food orders. Can you recommend a printer for the X/Z as these are obviously important?

There is some cabling already, the 2 tills have a cable between that is RJ45. Each end of the RJ45 connection also has an RS-232 dangling of it. Nothing is plugged in and one of the tills is powered off.

I also need to be able to update the pricing etc as the brewery are about to change their rates, from what I have read I can do this with a PC using a CAT5 patch lead..does this need to be a cross over or straight through.

My computer skills are good, my till skills are not!!

If you could also give me an idea of the software needed for programming (terminal emulator??) across a patch cable. Can I plug them into a switch and use the PC upstairs or does it have to be device to device?

I cant find an 8-digit programming code. All I can see is what appears to be a serial number on the side.

Many Thanks in advance.

Hi,

It would really need to be a uniwell printer if you wanted to share it between the 2 tills, the only one they really sell now is a TP-832. Here's a link to show you what they look like, I'm not sure they would supply one direct so you'd have to contact a dealer or look out on places like ebay.

The cable / communications depend on the version of the till you have. The cable you say that's hanging out the back is the RS485 port which ideally requires twin twisted pair cable. Alternatively if there is an actual ethernet port on the back of the tills then you could just plug them straight into a switch like you suggest and communicate that way. You cannot use a switch if you only have the RS485 port.

I'm really not sure on software to communicate with the tills, There is one called PLM2000 which enables you to program them but it doesn't have any sales related options it's purely for maintenance.

As for the Engineer code, we don't actually give this out on the forum but i've sent you some details in a private message.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Thanks for your reply and your private message.

I have contacted Uniwell and they have passed my details onto a reseller. I am waiting for them to get in touch about the printer.

The tills both have RJ45 ethernet ports on the back and I intend to switch attach them, do you know what protocols they will operate on? TCP/IP perhaps?

I will have a look at the software later today.

Cheers

Hi,

Yes it is TCP/IP and it's fairly straight forward to setup. You basically just give each piece of equipment, tills, printers etc a different static IP address.

Cheers

Hello EW.

Well I can't network the tills using Ethernet as the EPROM is version 1.05 and according to the documentation supplied it needs to be version 3. I did plug it in but no lights on, nobody home. First question, can the EPROM be flashed or upgraded, if so how?

I have a spare till in the basement, so I plugged that in for a fiddle before I touch the live one.

In engineer mode. I did an Initial Reset to recover the keyboard and then deleted all the old PLU's. I have programmed the buttons 1 through 70 with PLU's for beer and food etc. I have setup the till operators and assigned them ibuttons.

My only problem now is that I cannot assign PLU's to the buttons that the till has reserved for other functions like PLU Menu 1, percentages, menu shift etc (which will never be used), and I cannot seem to move the function buttons around to fit my own keyboard design. I have read that this is done under option sp-110 but if it is I can't work out exactly how. I know it is possible because they had been moved before I did the keyboard recovery.

Give me a clue please :D

Figured out the keys, I need to switch to keyboard layout F1 (flexible) not F0 (fixed). Will try it again later today, program the buttons and then switch.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay in responding. Yes you are correct, thats exactly what you need to do. F0 is the default layout and cannot be changed.

If you have any problems let me know.

Hello again Wizard 8)

Last night at 11pm the till broke. It completely locked up, no buttons worked at all, no beeps.

After a power cycle the customer side LCD showed 2 lines and the teller LCD showed the last screen used.

So I tried to switch keyboard (K0) and do an Initial Reset and now the customer side shows INIT RESET RQ and the teller side shows IR DONE and SETUP REQUIRED. It also seems to have gone nuts because a lot of the text is in Russian or some kind of ASCII character set.

Anyway its completely locked up, no buttons work in any key position, I cant seem to do anything with it.

So, I spent 3 hours programming the spare one and am left with 2 problems.

I started by doing INIT ALL DATA. I programmed all the buttons, PLU's, preset tenders, LUPLU's and the iButtons are assigned to the correct staff members.

So here's my problem.

When I disconnect the iButton it wipes the transactions from the screen and when I reconnect it the till has forgotten what I had pressed previously. So I cant have 2 staff running that bar unless they share an iButton and therefore share the till.

When I press the CASH/TTL8 button after serving a round it flashes up the change and "media 08" and clears the screen immediately. I would prefer it to leave the previous transaction displayed so that the staff can check the change they are giving.

Any help would be greatfully appreciated as usual :D

Hi,

You've done well so far :D

The clerks:

You will need to have these setting in your system function flags - 113:

17 - Clerks
All need to be set to NO

76 - Clerk 2
All No apart from C, E & G need to be YES

That should do it.

As for the screen clearing the above may fix that, if not did it used to keep the transaction on the screen after closing the sale?

Cheers

Those settings fixed the problems I mentioned. The only other thing I had to do was rename Media08 to CASH so it looked nice on the screen.

Many thanks again ;)
