hi porty,
thanks for all your help. i am going to send you a donation i just need to check with the 4 other co-op members tomorrow how much) tills were fine after that. (... for a few days, now pc can't see them again! but hopefully our local IT man can help us this time... he was going to alter ip addresses or something)
actually what he said yesterday i'll copy below. can you tell me if we're seeing the problem as you are? (also, we're soon to get a wireless credit card terminal which i hope will not cause more problems) (and i realised the recent wireless change which may be the problem is not the use of wirelss laptop, as thats been going on for a year, but wireless music system, just last couple weeks...) anyway, heres what gerry said:
When I first logged on and before I changed the DHCP I ran a ping against all ips on the network and 20 (itself) was the first ip that the pc could see so at 4:30 it couldn't see the tills then. In fact if "the tills" are on address 1 (which I did see at the weekend when I sent the emails) I cannot see why the dhcp scope was causing any issues with them because it was only issue addresses 64 to 163 (I am not bothering with all the 192.168.0. stuff as it gets a bit boring). Also that address is (for it to be only 1 ip) is the router on the tills and they are in fact in another range altogether. It looks like the problem of not seeing them today is something to do with the router on the tills and not any other change.
If an incoming PC caused an issue with the tills then I suggest someone brought in a PC with a static address set of 1 and that was your issue. Clearly the tills themselves are on a range that is not 192.168.0 (probably 192.168.1 but it could be anything) and the router on the tills ROUTES (that's why it's called a router) to 192.168.0.1
