Just bought a new er420 till and scanner. i need to set three vat rates zero, five and twenty percent as we sell goods with all of these rates. how do i do this?
also when i scan goods into the system before we get up and running do i have to do it three times?
as we sell goods which cant be scanned (fuel) etc i need to enter these manually, i have to allocate buttons on the till for these.
Where do i start??? help...... !what

the 420 can handle 3 tax rates so thats fine - simply set which rate [1,2 or3 depending on how you programmed the rates] under the plu status program

unfortunately, yes you do need to scan each item 3 times - unless you invest in back office software the 420 has an absolute maximum of 8000 plus if you have had it fully rammed.

Allocating buttons on the keyboard is exactly the same as scanning - you have 12 buttons to choose from -these are plus 1 to 12

Please excuse my ignorance regarding this ...
I have managed to set the 3 vat rates I think!!
I have scanned the product in with the price
I have scanned it again with a description of the product
BUT how does the till know what vat rate the product comes under??
I presume i scan it again but not sure of the procedure of allocating it to the correct vat..
Could you please tell me how to do the third procedure in the sequence.

THE STATUS OPTION TABLE ON PAGE 82 OF THE MANUAL WILL HELP YOU ALONG

turn the key to P enter 100 into subtotal scan the item enter the 9 digit status code as derived from your choices from the table on page 82
press x/time button
scan next item etc etc etc press cash to finalise programming

Well done on sorting out the tax rates - the last 2 digits catch many people out but in the uk should be 20
ie 20% vat extract = 20.00020
5% cat extract = 05.00020
er - you dont need to set a tax rate for zero!

to finalise the program you press cash.
if you are having "a session" ie programming lots and lots of products, yiou only need to press cash once - at the end of your programming session.

If you had access to a pc and a comms cable and a usb scanner, porgramming could be done via the software.

the 420 is an entry level scanning machine and as such, has its limitations. had you gone for the 7000 then you only need to scan each product once.

if the print out is of little interest to you and if you dont rip off each receipt as it issues from the printer, simply wind the roll back up and run the used roll back through the printer.
