Hi.
I'm planning to make a purchase on a new cash register soon. At first, I was torn berween sharp XE-A203 and Casio SE-S300
(http://world.casio.com/system/sa/produc ... _2000.html). Now I'm leaning towards this casio SE-S300 which has caught my eyes! Yes I know I shouldn't decide on how stylish one is but I can't help it lol.

Just one thing bothers me though.
It's supposed to be able to print out custom graphic logo and ability to connect to PC but after rather extensive reseach on the internet, I'm still baffled how I should go about it.

From the little knowledge I gathered so far, I've worked out that I need a cable (to connect to PC) and software from Casio. I'm thinking any old serial cable would do it, right?
But what about the software? I've heard people mentioning something called CV31, but I don't know where I can get this software and I'm not even sure it's compatible with the new model like SE series. Can someone please shine a light on this issue please? Thanks a heaps.

Hi.
No, a std 232 cable will not work with Casio or Sharp. You must use a Casio spec cable. Your supplier should be able to give you everything you need when you purchase it. I'm not sure if CV31 has an update for the SE series yet. CV10 definitely does, so the dealer should be able to give you software. I've not done a graphic on them before, so I don't know if the software has it yet. Just check this with your dealer.

Hope this helps.

Mark

Thanks NZTech!
That was really helpful and cleared things up for me.
Gaa, why do they have to make the simplist things like serial cable proprietary.
It's all about the money I tell you lol.

I was going to buy the register from a website and they feature a cable in their catalogue (at a rather hefty price) but no mention of the software.
Do you know how much I should expect to pay for the necessary software? (and does CV-10 allow you to upload the logo image?)

I can't seem to find any graphic utility in CV10, so there may be a separate piece of software to do it. Check with the supplier. They should give it to you for free if you request it. You can make your own cable. I have the specs kicking around, but definitely check which software the supplier has for comms, and whether it can do a graphic logo. These are such a new series that I haven't done much with them yet. First ones I did were so simple that I didn't need software, but graphic logo always requires a utility.

Thanks again NZtech.
I've just asked the supplier and he told me that CV10 would do it.
Now who am I to argue with the expert and it's not like I can do three way conference between you, me and him? Can I? :p
I trust that you are correct becaue you actually checked it yourself but then it means I still don't know how I'll be able to upload the stupid logo. :(
This is getting stressful and I haven't even touched one yet!
Should I just go ahead and purchase it hoping that everything will fall into its place or should I not bother with the fancy registers, go out and buy the cheapest register I can get my hands on....

He will almost certainly be right. I had a feeling it could do it, but I haven't played with it too much, so I probably overlooked it. You can always return it if it doesn't do what they say it will.

Yeah you are right. I guess it's worth a try. I'll see how it goes.
Thanks Mark.

uk casio dealer here.

yes the utility software can do the logo. Make sure you get the logo the correct size. These casios actually have a lot of logos in them that you can get to print, but only one you can change.

the data cable is fairly standard, someone told me you can buy them from cpc.

important note- make sure the machine you are buying has the latest IPL (basically the firmware version). This has recently been released and can only be loaded using a proprietary gizmo which the dealer must purchase. The main reason for this is a change to how the electronic journal is reset.

they are good machines, you wont regret it. Some have commented parts of these are flimsy, but the important parts seem solid.

i will also say i like the ses300 because the text programming has been improved - it works like sending a text now. Very logical and easy to program text to buttons. It also has microbial buttons (whatever that is supposed to mean, lol)
