My UP-700 is second-hand and I've reprogrammed all the keys suit my business but I can't quite lay them out in groups as I please since many keys don't seem to be programmable.
It makes for a messy broken up keyboard that doesn't make much sense.
Is there a way to program these blank keys?

nope - you need a service key so you can twist to SRV mode (one click past pgm2) and change those blank buttons to PLU buttons

You will only need the service key to make the keys blank before assigning them as PLU keys. If they have no function assigned at the moment then you can assign PLU numbers to them in PGM 2.

PGM 2 > Setting > Direct Key

Press the key to be changed. It should say dept. Press Decimal point to switch to PLU then press enter. Enter the code you want this to be and press enter.

Regards,

Dave

OK, great, thanks very much. I did that. Some worked, some didn't

I couldn't find a service key, I wonder if you can make one?

More importantly, after ALL FRICKEN MORNING programming keys in the layout I wanted, many of the new keys became all the same.

So say I programmed buttons for Cigarettes, Drinks, Chocolate, Chips, Fuel, etc.
When I went back to actually use them they had all be wiped and replaced with Fuel.

How can that be?

What is the department name they are linked to?

I remember a till that had a similar problem with memory and it would change the product to the dept name once sold.
